eXtended Business Modeling Language (xBML)

To fully understand a business and its processes, one must first dissect the business into its separate and distinct “atomic” dimensions.  BusinessGenetics eXtended Business Modeling Language defines each individual business dimension (WHAT, WHO, WHERE, WHICH, and WHEN), as defined by a stated purpose (WHY). Once defined using xBML, these individual elements are reintegrated to create a representative model of the entire business (HOW) that supports the business purpose.

xBML ensures a complete interface with the Universal Modeling Language (UML) and provides a superset of data for the Extensible Markup Language (XML.) xBML’s synoptic output can be used to simplify and improve business operations, analyze existing inefficiencies, or implement business enhancements. The approach further enables organizations to truly comprehend the impact that any business change might have. Additionally, the approach has successfully been used to transform and literally interpret often ambiguous and lengthy Regulatory Requirements into clear and precise business models that can be used during implementation or for business enhancement / refinement.

Methods

BusinessGenetics uses two proven methods in order to rapidly enable an organization (and its staff) to articulate business operations. Firstly, the eXtended Business Modeling Language (xBML) is used to synoptically model the specific individual dimensions of an organization’s requirements / processes. This approach has been proven in a wide range of activities (across a wide range of organizations) from defining a corporate level CRM Strategy to defining Federal Regulations. Ultimately, it is the quality of an organization’s business requirements that determine organizational success or failure. Additionally, to ensure the success of any xBML work-session, BusinessGenetics has developed its own unique, advanced facilitation approach, Business Co-Formulation™ (BCF)™. BCF helps define the required business detail needed to model organizations using the xBML approach.

Business Co-Formulation

Gathering input using any methodology requires a disciplined approach. BusinessGenetics offers its unique facilitation approach, Business Co-Formulation (BCF) as a reliable, proven and effective way to ensure the success of any business modeling work-session. BCF uses carefully selected and representative Subject-Matter Experts (SME) to drive out an organization’s tacit knowledge. This knowledge must be represented, as it is most often tacitly defined by key personnel. Business Co-Formulation is used in tandem with the eXtended Business Modeling Language to explicitly drive out the SMEs’ understanding into a complete and easy to interpret model set.

Typical objectives and benefits of Business Co-Formulation are:

  • Reconstruction/reconstitution of knowledge
  • Emphasis on human / Subject Matter Expert input
  • Establishment of common IT and business terminology
  • Greater communication across organizational barriers
  • Improved understanding of the business domain
  • Creation of a complete picture of your business / processes
